At this point in the year, most of my Kinders are working on letter recognition, so I changed out the sight words for the alphabet.
**This center is so easy - no lamination needed! I hardly ever say that!**
I printed the uppercase letters on yellow construction paper and the lowercase letters on white. I cut around each piece of popcorn, crumpled up the papers, and put the pieces in the popcorn containers.
Students pull out a piece of paper, smooth it out, and say the letter. You could also have them trace the letter, or use a crayon, dot marker, or highlighter to mark the letter. I have included a few different recording options for you to use.
I teach my students how to figure out the name of an unknown letter by using an alphabet chart and the alphabet song.
When a student doesn't know the name of a letter, they find the matching letter on the alphabet chart and place a clear colored marker on it. Then they sing the alphabet song as they point to each letter. When they get to the letter with the marker on it, they stop singing. The last letter they sang is the name of the unknown letter!
You can download the printables for this center HERE!
Kay I LOVE this! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! I glad you can use it!
DeleteI love this idea. Is there any way to get a copy of a blank sheet? I would like to use these with my math groups. Thanks! CRBURRELL@aol.com
ReplyDeleteSo cute & so simple! I use Popcorn Words in my classroom but was thinking the alphabet game would be a good way to start the year & introduce the popcorn theme. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteLearning at the Teacher Table
What a fun idea! I just wanted to let you know that I am posting this with a link back to my roundup of alphabet activities on Simply Creative Kids if you don't mind.
ReplyDeleteI really like this game!! Being a bilingual teacher I was wondering how I could tweak it. Could I possibly get a black copy of the popcorn sheet to add the extra letter in the spanish alphabet (Ch, Ll, Ñ). Thank you in advance, veronica.v.garcia@austinisd.org
